Antelope Island, Utah
Antelope Island is located close to Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah and home of the Mormons. It was also the location we chose to set up camp for a couple nights. Antelope Island is renowned for it's diverse wildlife.
This was the first time either of us had seen Bison and we were very excited. The first ones were spotted a short walk up the hill from our camp ground, we kept our distance by stalking through the tall grass and even getting onto large rocks for the better vantage point and protection from charging Bison. The next day we got much closer to these magnificent animals on a drive around the island. We also came across Antelope and a very shy Porcupine!
The island itself has a lot to offer. It was formed during an ice age when glaciers removed all the surrounding rock and left just the hardest outcrop. The land around it is flat for miles and even the nearest hills are rounded from the erosion.
